Final conference for the “Promoting the Affectivity of Youth with Intellectual Disabilities” (Giaff4ID) project in Sofia, Bulgaria
On the 21st and 22nd of October 2024 we held the final conference for the “Promoting the Affectivity of Youth with Intellectual Disabilities” (Giaff4ID) project in Sofia, Bulgaria
🎉 The event brought together members of partner organizations and the project team – European Institute For Local Development (EILD), EASPD – European Association of Service providers for Persons with Disabilities, National Association of Resource Teachers – NART BULGARIA, Open Europe EuroDesk, ZİÇEV to celebrate the culmination of this important initiative.
A highlight of the conference was Dr. Emanuela Stoilova’s insightful presentation on strategies to foster emotional development in young people with intellectual disabilities.
We also presented the key findings from the European Report on Sexual Education and Afectivity Learning, which delved into the needs and challenges faced by youth with intellectual disabilities, based on interviews conducted with them. Discussions included youth participation in their communities and the development of materials to strengthen relationship-building skills among youth workers.
Another major moment was the unveiling of two essential resources:
📕 The Youth Worker Handbook for Promoting Affectivity in Youth with Intellectual Disabilities
🎮 The Compendium of Educational Games for Affectivity Promotion
Participants also had the chance to test these resources through the “global café” method, sharing their thoughts and recommendations.
It was an inspiring two days of learning, sharing, and reflecting on how we can continue to support affectivity development in youth with intellectual disabilities.
